Getting Started: Planning

hand writing on calendar

Just like so many things in life, a little planning can go a long way!

To help you stay on track, consider:

  • Scheduling your runs into your week, just like any other important appointment, meeting,
    or to-do item.
  • Setting calendar alerts for your upcoming run(s). Don’t leave it to chance!
  • Making it a date with yourself. This is a chance to take some time for yourself.
  • Fitting your run into however much time you have—even if that’s only 10-20 minutes. Getting it done, even if it’s only some of it, however you can, is the biggest hack of all.

Something is always better than nothing!

A little additional planning, such as laying out your running clothes the day before, can also help you save time, and it mentally gears you up to know that you are exercising tomorrow!

If you don’t already, consider making some dedicated drawer space for your workout clothes to help you stay organized.

And when you are feeling REALLY unmotivated,
Coach Jen recommends that you DO just two things:

    1. PUT ON YOUR RUNNING CLOTHES!
It’s like putting on your best clothes for a meeting: It just makes you feel better and more motivated to get out and get it done.
    2. THEN GET OUT FOR JUST FIVE MINUTES!
Go out and start your workout for just FIVE minutes! And we bet after those first five minutes, you’ll be ready to complete the full workout!

Sometimes the HARDEST step is the FIRST step out the door!

What tips do you have to help runners check their running goal boxes!?
